WWF – Marine ecosystems and environmental challenges

8 Maggio 2024

mareFVG is pleased to invite you to participate in two workshops on marine ecosystems, nature conservation, and ocean literacy. The two workshops are part of a pilot initiative promoted by the uBlueTec project, with ANP-WWF Portugal leading the green skills training.

The first workshop “How can nature conservation mitigate marine environmental challenges?” will be led by experts Catia Nunes and Madalena Lopez (ANP-WWF Portugal) in collaboration with Alberto Pallavicini and Stanislao Bevilacqua (Department of Science Life of University of Trieste). The workshop will take place on 8th May from 10:00 to 13:00 at the University of Trieste, building H2bis, room 5a.

The session will explore pressing issues such as the drivers of climate change, the impact of climate change on oceans and communities, the environmental challenges facing marine ecosystems, and the responsible management of underwater resources and ecosystem services. Participants will gain valuable insights into minimising environmental impacts, using underwater mapping technologies for conservation, and promoting inclusive approaches that involve coastal communities in conservation efforts.

The workshop is targeted at university and PhD students.

The second workshop “Marine ecosystems and environmental challenges: how can we work together with nature?” will be led by experts Catia Nunes, Madalena Lopez (ANP-WWF Portugal) and Giulia Realdon (EMSEA) that will give an introductory presentation on Ocean Literacy . The workshop will take place on 8th May from 15:30 to 18:00 in Monfalcone at the Innovation Young centre, sala Aristotele, viale San Marco 70.

The session will be an introduction to ocean literacy, with a focus on marine ecosystems services. It will explore the drivers of climate change and the impact of climate change on oceans and communities. During the workshop participants will learn how to explore and manage marine resources responsibly, and on how to effectively adopt nature-based technological solutions, including coastal communities in the process.

The workshop is targeted at high-school students.

Both workshops will be held in English. We invite you to join us for two engaging sessions focused on understanding and addressing marine environmental challenges through effective conservation strategies by registering below:
